We have so much to be proud of: the coal that was dug from beneath our feet kick-started the industrial revolution, the steel we invented and smelted here has been used to construct buildings across the globe, the trains which broke world records were made by South Yorkshire’s hands.
With that in mind, I will move to support projects such as the Steel Man sculpture, to ensure that our past is remembered and celebrated, as we move towards a better future.
I support Doncaster’s bid to be recognised as a city. Being granted that status would boost the area’s profile and would undoubtedly produce more investment. I encourage Doncaster Council to ensure that the bid is cost-effective and that they are not drawing unreasonable resources away from elsewhere.
I will encourage the Yorkshire Rose to be flown year-round from every town hall in South Yorkshire and all sports grounds.
As Mayor of South Yorkshire, I want our area – and indeed all of Yorkshire – to punch its weight. I would be a restless and relentless advocate for the whole of our county, both in relation to London and the South and internally, for the smaller towns that are too often ignored, as well as our cities and beautiful, rural areas.
Please VOTE FOR ME, Simon Biltcliffe, on the 5th of May for a
different kind of politician.
